Waxing is a very effective method of hair removal. Quicker and more efficient than shaving, waxing has been an essential beauty technique used for thousands of years. Ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans all underwent some sort of waxing hair removal service in order to achieve their desired aesthetic. Some historians even report cavemen went to great lengths to remove their body hair – albeit for survival purposes not beauty!

It wasn’t until the 1960s that we saw the hair removal technique start to resemble what we know today. Take-home wax strips and salon waxing became a popular beauty technique to achieve silky smooth legs and arms.

Today, we wax for a variety of reasons. Whether it’s comfort, appearance or any other reason, waxing offers an easy alternative to shaving and often helps with common issues like razor burn and ingrown hairs. Here at The Beauty & Brow Parlour we know that waxing is an essential beauty service and offer a range of waxing options.

How To Prepare For Waxing

full leg waxing

Waxing can be a sensitive issue in more than one sense of the word. Eyebrow waxing, our arms, legs and most other areas are relatively easy to endure, but when it comes to areas like our bikini line it’s perfectly normal to feel hesitation. The Beauty & Brow technicians are all qualified professionals that are there to make your experience as easy and pleasant as possible. Trusting in the skilled services of our technicians can help put your mind at ease.

In terms of skin preparation, it depends on the area. Generally, your hair should be at least a quarter of an inch long before your appointment. Waxing directly after a razor shave will not work. The wax requires enough hair on your skin to firmly grip onto in order to properly remove the entire hair – root and all – from the follicle.

Some customers who are particularly sensitive to waxing choose to employ the use of an over-the-counter pain reliever before visiting our salon. A mild angelisic will usually help you through the process if you find it a little too difficult.

It’s also important to make sure the area has no creams or lotions applied to it before your wax. This can make your skin too slippery and not allow the wax to adhere properly.

Caring For Your Skin After A Waxing

Looking after your skin post-wax is an important step. To reduce the chance of any issues, The Beauty and Brow Parlour suggests avoiding very hot showers and baths during the 24 hour period after your treatment. Additionally, wearing tight clothes, intense exercise and touching the area should be avoided directly after waxing. Cold compresses can be used to soothe the area and over-the-counter antiseptic creams can be applied to particularly inflamed areas.

The Beauty & Brow Parlour are the experts in all wax hair removal services. Whether it’s eyebrow waxing or brazilian, we’ve got you covered. Locate your nearest parlour today to book in for a wax!
